What the Filter Media Actually Determines
Not all shower filters remove the same things, and the difference comes down to filter media rather than brand. Activated carbon filters are effective against chlorine and some organic compounds but limited against heavy metals and hard-water minerals; KDF (a copper-zinc alloy medium) handles chlorine and some heavy metals but does little for scale-forming minerals; and true water softening for hard water requires an ion-exchange system, which most shower-head filters aren't.
